Tour de COhio

June 7th - Ordway, CO to Eads, CO

Day 3 - June 7th, 2005

Left early, 5:45 am, went 6 miles to Sugar City, CO and ate breakfast at 7:00 am when they opened – the Cookie Jar Lady of Sugar City Cafe and her puzzles! Lots of bugs on the way there. After breakfast, we caught a nice tail wind – 24 mph on flats 18 mph on incline at one point! Leaving early is the best strategy for beating the head wind.

Camping tonight at Eads, CO – 35 miles from the Kansas border. 61 miles today. Rolled in here at 1:00 pm. Nice little city park that allows bikers to camp (Trans American bike trail), but it's next to some grain elevators that are very noisy. Other than that, a beautiful night. Two other guys rolled in about 7:00 pm or so – going to Oregon from Virginia. Loaded down, they are. Carrying about 50# in gear and going 70 or 80+ miles a day, but riding 7 or 8+ hours a day. Too much in the saddle for me! Nice dudes. Young – 20s.

Well, I'm sitting here alone while my comrades in cycling sleep away the weariness of a good day of riding. And now I retire to my cocoon tent for some music and maybe some reading.

Later,

DG
