Tour de COhio

June 17th - Louisburg-Middle Creek Fishing Lake, KS to Clinton, MO

Day 13: - June 17th, 2005

Left the lake by 7:00 a.m. - had breakfast in Drexel, MO – hey, we made MO – pedaled on through hot, intense sun with high humidity and many very steep hills – 64 miles again to Clinton, MO, the start of the Katy Trail! Dave P's bro Tim drove his Jaguar up from his home in Joplin, MO – a good conversation and much camaraderie was enjoyed by all as the Cubs went down to the Yankees on the tube and we conversed and laughed the afternoon away, enjoying various ales and lagers of our choosing. I should mention we held up in a motel tonight to sort of celebrate reaching the Katy Trail and to get a much needed shower and shave. Although – apparently – we could have camped at the Convention Center just up from the trail head – w/showers – but it was very hot and, well, ya know...

So here I am in Clinton, MO in the Best Western with my ol' buddy Bo (as usual on these sort of adventures) getting ready to crash – Bo already did – soaking in just what I'm doing here. I called Catt tonight and Eddy Barrett (must send pix via email from Dave P's camera disc later). The calls were great. People are overwhelmed by what we're doing which helps me put it back into perspective – you almost get used to it, so that it seems only normal to wake up every morning and take down your tent, pack your sleeping bag, roll up your mat, pack all your gear back on your bike and go...no big deal – so this is what normal life is like – I like it!

Well, I ramble – big day tomorrow – ahhh yesss!
