Tour de COhio
June 18th - Clinton, Mo to New Franklin, MO (Katy Roundhouse)
Day 14: - June 18th, 2005
Oh yeah! Katy Trail – what a nice change of pace. Hard packed limestone gravel – like cement with grit on top – 81 miles today. Hot, humid – long gradual uphill slopes – to the Missouri River. I can't figure how you go up hill to get to a river, but anyway, we crossed the Missouri River today on a highway bridge with a bike lane – pretty cool – big river. Camping tonight at the Katy Roundhouse campground and restaurant – top notch food – good ale – good friends – nice night – mosquitoes the size of sparrows but they went away after nightfall. Made some phone calls – Gary smashed my leg just now – ow – anyway, I'm off to enjoy my slumber in my current state of bliss!
Goodnight.

P.S. From one extreme to the other in Kansas and eastern Colorado. It was so dry you didn't need a tent fly except for dust. But now, like at home – Gary just mentioned after getting in his tent – that the inside walls and ceiling are wet – high humidity – river basin – shows how much we've traveled geographically speaking. Theres really no other way to appreciate this massive, immense, wide open land we lucky enough to live in. I hate to think of the way corporate America has it under its thumb. I hope to never see what I'm afraid could happen to all of this splendor. If only I could have witnessed it in all its glory!!
