Photographs - Plantis et Floribus
(Plants and Flowers)
Title: Rose
Date Taken: June 7, 2003
Location: University Place, Washington
EXIF Data: Camera: Canon PowerShot G1; Exposure Mode: black & white; Lens Aperture: F/4.0; Shutter Speed: 1/179 second; F/L: 7.0 mm; ISO: auto; Flash: none
Notes: A Saturday morning shoot in the yard of the house we were renting at the time. We had plenty of interesting flowers - roses, azaleas, and such. It was shot in black-and-white mode, but in hindsight, I now shoot everything in color and then, if desiring to have a black-and-white picture, do the color conversion after the fact.
Title: Flowers from the Grantz
Date Taken: August 19, 2003
Location: University Place, Washington
EXIF Data: Camera: Canon PowerShot G1; Exposure Mode: manual; Lens Aperture: F/4.5; Shutter Speed: 1/15 second; F/L: 21 mm; ISO: 50; Flash: none
Notes: Our friends the Grantz brought us a nice hanging outdoor flower arrangement. I had fun trying to take hand-held close-ups in the evening light. I was fascinated with the play of colors and shapes.
Title: Window Sill Iris
Date Taken: September 14, 2003
Location: University Place, Washington
EXIF Data: Camera: Canon PowerShot G1; Exposure Mode: manual; Lens Aperture: F/4.5; Shutter Speed: 1/25 second; F/L: 7.0 mm; ISO: 50; Flash: none
Notes: This little beauty was shot early in the morning with morning light coming in the window. The picture is cropped and enhanced to bring out the whiteness of the petal and the yellow interior color.
Title: Vibrant Pansy
Date Taken: August 22, 2008
Location: Colorado Springs, Colorado
EXIF Data: Camera: Fuji FinePix S9100; Exposure Mode: auto; Lens Aperture: F/3.0; Shutter Speed: 1/391 second; F/L: 7.2 mm; ISO: 800; Flash: none
Notes: My wife likes to plant annauls in large planters. These, consequently, can make for interesting photo ops. This picture caught my interest with the slightly off-color of the background plants due, no doubt, to my experimental toying with the camera settings. In any case, the final result is one I'm happy with. Thanks serendipity!
Title: The Soft Journey
Date Taken: June 8, 2010
Location: Colorado Springs, Colorado
EXIF Data: Camera: Fuji FinePix S9100; Exposure Mode: auto; Lens Aperture: F/3.9; Shutter Speed: 1/47 second; F/L: 29 mm; ISO: 80; Flash: none
Notes: Another early morning flower shoot with our purple bearded irises in our backyard. There is an infinite number of light, color, and shape possibilities which makes photographing flowers such as this one so much fun. I set the camera up on a tripod and used a cable release to snap the set of pictures from which this photo was taken. This particular image has been cropped and slight enhanced with Paint Shop Pro from the original picture.
